» Leased line prices
Leased lines have traditionally been the choice of businesses that need reliable Internet Access, an SLA and flexible bandwidth needs.
Leased line prices are determined by several factors:
- the distance from the service provider's point of presence or POP
- the size of bandwidth required i.e. 2Mbps 4Mbps or 10Mbps
- the distance apart of the sites that you want to connect

Leased line prices may be affected by additional charges for managed routers or internet bandwidth too.

Leased line from Managed Comms
To better understand the costs, speeds and limitations of a leased line from Managed Comms, it helps to learn exactly what it is and how it works.
So what is a leased line? Put simply, it's a dedicated data line between two points; similar to a telephone line, except the two ends are permanently connected. This means data transfer is quick and uninterrupted – unlike the local area network, this internet connection is dedicated solely to your organisation.
Of course, you don't have to use your leased line to link your office to the internet. Another possibility is linking remote offices to the head office, or linking together any two geographically distant locations, enabling super-fast transfer of files and data. This ties in nicely with our Virtual Private Network service, which connects all the computers in an organisation with a secure network.
The distance between two points that you connect is usually the main factor in determining leased line prices. However, Managed Comms decides the cost according to the maximum bandwidth a business can achieve with their leased line. Another way we save money for our customers is in bypassing BT: it is no longer a requirement to have a BT managed leased line to run latency-dependent applications such as Voice over IP or Citrix, and we don't use their telephone exchanges.
